Anthony Martial is set to miss the Chelsea game this weekend with injury, Erik ten Hag has confirmed.

Manchester United Football Club have had a pretty decent midweek. Their win over Tottenham Hotspur was undoubtedly the best display under Erik ten Hag so far.

Although the aftermath of the math was headlined by Cristiano Ronaldo, the performance itself was something to be proud of. To a man, United were better than their opposite numbers, resulting in a comfortable 2-0 victory.

Next up is Chelsea. Another tough match against top opposition. Ten Hag will be hoping for more of the same from his squad – though once again, they’ll have to do it without Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman has been nursing an injury that ruled him out of the Spurs match. Today, we learned that the key United star is still ‘not available’ for the Chelsea game. However, the Frenchman is back in training.

Check out what Ten Hag had to say on the Martial injury here:

“Martial? He was on the [training] pitch, but he’s not available for tomorrow,” Ten Hag told the media, including “We have to see how it develops in the coming days.”

Thankfully, the fact he’s back out on the pitch indicates that this isn’t a severe issue. Who knows, he could be back for the Europa League game next Thursday.

My issue with Martial is that these small injury issues are beginning to really mount up. He’s missed eight of United’s ten league matches so far. That’s a large portion.

More than anything, it’s just disappointing. Martial’s form in the limited minutes he has played has been nothing short of exceptional. No doubt we’d be in an even better position if the striker had been available for all those matches.
