Arsenal posted on their social media pages to confirm Johan Djourou’s visit to the club on Friday, showing a clip of Granit Xhaka going over to chat with his former Swiss international teammate.

Djourou confirmed his retirement from his playing days last summer, following a stint with Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.

At the end of his career, Arsenal remain the team he played for the most, with 144 appearances.

Joining Arsenal as a youth player in August 2003, Djourou saw the club win the Premier League unbeaten, the Community Shield, and the FA Cup in his first two seasons in North London.

There was obviously a much tougher period after that, but Djourou has maintained his love of the club even following his departure. He regularly has positive words to say in his replies to present-day players and the club on social media.

Djourou is one of a long list of former players to return to visit or work for Arsenal in recent times.

The club have Mikel Arteta in the manager role, Edu working as a technical director, and Per Mertesacker in charge of the academy.

Then Jack WilshereDavid Seaman, Sanchez Watt, and Fabrice Muamba are among others to return to the training ground at their old club recently.
