Fenerbahce goalkeeper Altay Bayindir will travel to England shortly to secure a move to Manchester United, according to Turkish outlet Haber Turk.
The Red Devils conducted a pre-medical on the 25-year-old in Athens on Tuesday, and the shot-stopper successfully passed the necessary tests.
An agreement has now been reached between the clubs for €7 million, and it is reported that Bayindir will make the trip to England ‘shortly’ to join United.
Fenerbahce have already found a replacement for the Turkey international. Dominik Livakovic is set to join them from Croatian outfit Dinamo Zagreb.
Bayindir would suit Erik ten Hag’s playing style at United
United currently have Andre Onana as their first-choice goalkeeper with Dean Henderson as the back-up. However, the latter is expected to depart soon.
Henderson is on the radar of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. The England international is keen to leave the club to play regular first-team football.
United have identified Bayindir as his successor. In our view, he would suit manager Erik ten Hag’s playing style, considering he is a modern goalkeeper.
Bayindir had a passing accuracy of 69 per cent in the Super Lig last term with an average of 4.9 long balls.
He made nearly one successful clearance per appearance and impressed with his sweeper-keeper ability.
The Turkish star has the tendency to be erratic with his decision-making at times, but should be a good signing to play in the Carabao and FA Cup games.
Bayindir is definitely a better acquisition than Benfica’s Odysseas Vlachodimos, who is more traditional and barely makes runs outside of his own box.
