Brighton’s Moises Caicedo has impressed of late and here’s why we believe he’s the perfect signing for this Man United side.
Manchester United are adapting and evolving under Erik ten Hag. There’s no doubt about that. The Old Trafford club need a huge transfer window to close the gap between themselves and the other top teams in the Premier League.
Signings are needed. Perhaps the biggest requirement is an elite tier striker, though there are other areas of concern. A new centre-back for depth would be nice, possibly a goalkeeper and another midfielder.
The latter is where we’d like to focus our attention today. Midfield is probably the most important position in the team. Controlling that area of the pitch can have huge significance on any final result. United have improved in that area since Ten Hag took charge, though further refinement is required.
Several midfielders have been linked with an Old Trafford switch, including Moises Caicedo. The Brighton & Hove Albion man really opened my eyes during that FA Cup semi-final a little over a week ago. No doubt he’ll have an equally impressive game tomorrow when the sides meet again.
The 21-year-old feels like someone who’d be the ideal signing for this United side. Let’s give you the rundown as to why.
Long-term Casemiro replacement
Casemiro is unreal. He’s been an outstanding piece of business and he will be around for a while. That said, there’s a notable drop-off in performances when he’s forced to play three times a week.
The problem? United have nobody who can come in and do just as well on the defensive side of things. Caicedo would be able to come in and fulfil the role nicely.
The perfect Premier League defensive midfielder
The word perfect is often thrown around a lot. Caicedo is as close as you’re going to get. You need mobility, speed, positional awareness and a real desire to win. This young man from Ecuador ticks all those boxes and more.
You just have to watch him closely for one game to see his sheer brilliance. He dominated United’s midfield at Wembley a week or so ago – and he did it single-handedly at times.
Experienced despite being young in age
Caicedo has already played almost 100 career games despite being only 21. Half of those have come in England. He’s already learning his trade at the highest level and continuing to improve week-on-week.
What’s scary is that Caicedo is already good enough for pretty much every team in the world. He needs the right coaching to continue on this upward trajectory. Ten Hag is 100% that man.
Made for Manchester United
Caicedo stinks of United. He has all the right tools and assets both physically and mentally to succeed at the highest level. He plays the game the right way, while also being a born winner.
The problem? United are not going to be the only ones chasing this signature. It’s going to be an all-out war to sign Caicedo – assuming United can afford it given their ownership status is up in the air.
A big-game player
Not everyone can handle the pressure. Caicedo was the best player on the park in a Wembley semi-final last week. He doesn’t shy away when the lights are at their brightest. Instead, he plays that little bit better. United could absolutely do with more players like that.
Sure, he’d be expensive. Buying from Brighton isn’t easy. However, if United can beat out the competition and get this deal done, it could be game-changing.
