Vladimir Coufal looked a lot more like his old self yesterday during the Newcastle vs West Ham clash at St James’ Park.

West Ham earned what could end up being a vital point against Newcastle on Tyneside yesterday, and Coufal played a key role for the team.

David Moyes has shown real faith and trust in the 34-capped Czech Republic international this season.

The 30-year-old has regressed badly over the past 12 months. He has been an absolute shadow of the player who impressed so much during his debut season with the Hammers.

Coufal moved to the London Stadium for just £4 million in October 2020 (The Sun). And at the time, that seemed like fantastic value for money.

There have been question marks hanging over his head recently as to whether he’s actually good enough to be playing Premier League football though.

He was linked with an exit from West Ham in the January transfer, having grown frustrated with the fact that he was no-loinger guaranteed regular first-team action.

However, there have been real signs over the past few weeks that Coufal is close to rediscovering his best form. His display against the Magpies yesterday really was very impressive indeed…

Vladimir Coufal was superb during Newcastle vs West Ham clash

I have been highly critical of the 30-year-old over the past few months, and that criticism was more than fair in my opinion.

However, credit where credit’s due…he was excellent at St James’ Park yesterday evening.

Coufal defended brilliantly against the usually dangerous Allan Saint-Maximin, and kept him quiet all game.

During yesterday’s draw with the Toon, Coufal made five tackles, three interceptions, one block and three clearances. The 30-year-old had 62 touches won two aerial duels as well (Who Scored).

The challenge for the Hammers right-back now will be to show the form that he displayed yesterday for at least four or five games in a row. Then we will know for sure that he is back to his best.

Vladimir Coufal was sensational for West Ham vs Newcastle yesterday, and he played a key contributing role in the result.

Now it’s up to him to continue that form.
