Manchester City have been given an injury boost ahead of Saturday’s trip to face Chelsea. Mike McGrath of the Telegraph noted earlier in the week that Aymeric Laporte was a doubt to face Chelsea, but he was pictured training on Thursday and could now make the matchday squad as a result.
The 27-year-old has made three Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal. He was an unused substitute in City’s 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur (August 15), played a full 90 minutes in their 5-0 win over Norwich City (August 21), 5-0 win over Arsenal (August 28) and 1-0 win over Leicester City (September 11) but missed their 0-0 draw with Southampton (September 18).
Laporte’s future at the Etihad Stadium was uncertain going into this season as he’d lost his place in the side due to John Stones forging a formidable partnership alongside Ruben Dias, but the 6ft 2in centre-back has been a regular this campaign when fit.
Nathan Ake partnered Dias against Leicester in Laporte’s absence, but time will tell who Pep Guardiola gives the nod to against Chelsea. The 27-year-old a left-footed defender like Ake, so he has a good chance of retuning if deemed fit enough.
